Dr. Melissa Ertl researches the social determinants of health risk behaviors and health disparities among marginalized groups—primarily among Latinx immigrants and young adults. Her focus is at the intersection of HIV and substance use health disparities among racial/ethnic, gender, and sexual minority populations, as well as groups that may be disenfranchised or underserved. She is interested in translational research and designing, delivering, and evaluating intervention programs for HIV in the context of substance use among high-risk groups (e.g., MSM, injection and non-injection substance users).
